We started to study and practice the connection between mind, body, and spirit thousands of years ago, West and East. However, it has been evolved in this changing era. It is also the foundation for a fuller understanding of “Holistic True Health”: What the body feels is influenced by emotions and thoughts, and what we think is influenced by what happens in the body.

Along with the science advanced, the connection between mind, body and spirit seemed to have been forgotten by modern medical treatment and other science fields for a long time. But recent decays, especially in psychology and cognitive science, more and more experts are discussing the studies on this connection.

Motivational speaker, bestselling writer, and the greatest coach Dr. Denis Waitley mentioned this concept in his The Psychology of Winning, first published in 1979:

“Since your mind and body are trying to comply with your instructions and achieve a condition of ‘homeostasis’ or balance, if your mental expectancy is healthy and creative, your body will seek to display this general feeling with better health, energy, and condition of well-being. That is why many common maladies such as headaches, low back pain, ulcers, hives, shingles, asthma, and certain allergies are often identified with emotion rather than organic disturbances.”

"A long time before my depression and anxiety developed into schizophrenia, I often felt pains in my back and neck. I’d thought it was because I worked in an office and sat in front of a computer for too long every day. This probably resulted in a very common chronic occupational disease, cervical spondylosis. However, I was wrong. This pain disturbed me for a very long time before, during, and after my mental disease outbreak. Even when I was taking psychotropic medications, it still troubled me. It was not a kind of sharp pain, but always there, unaccountable and without any radical solution, either from traditional Chinese or Western medicine. I had always thought it was a separate physical illness. After I fully utilized the transboundary holistic therapy, which integrated mind training with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) Meta-programs and orthomolecular nutrition, and I started to naturally recover from my mental disease, this disturbing suffering was alleviated, surprisingly. It eventually disappeared when I had fully healed myself.

It is worth thinking about mental reasons for chronic physical signs. I sincerely suggest that people who have similar unaccountable symptoms should also raise their awareness of mental conditions. This connection among mind, body, and spirit provides us with an explanation of how mental diseases develop."

Excerpt from my book Paradox

The idea of a connection between the mind, body, and spirit originated several thousand years ago, both in Eastern and Western theories. We find the concept of mind and body connection in the Old Testament. It increasingly described the head and heart were rebellious and rejected. Then the mind and body became estranged. The body was judged as an unsuitable, impure vessel for spiritual experiences.

As another testament of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon further developed the teaching of the bible and provided us with an answer to keep pace with the time. It made me believe the Book of Mormon, is a unique tool of life and health transcendence:

To put it simply, this life is training for eternal exaltation, and we all must repent of the past experiences, change ourselves to achieve holistic health. Most importantly, we need to change our lifestyle, negative thoughts and energy, as well as detaching from other entanglements.

"The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame, even as we now are at this time; and we shall be brought to stand before God, knowing even as we know now, and have a bright recollection of all our guilt."

[Alma 11:43 from the Book of Mormon]

The president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints taught us his revelation from the scripture: “Anyone who studies the workings of the human body has surely ‘seen God moving in his majesty and power.’ Because the body is governed by divine law, and healing comes by obedience to the law upon which that blessing is predicated.”

"I think the mind is always acting like a bridge in every aspect of our life and health problems when we integrated faith with science. Physical body health is to be restored with a holistic lifestyle by following the Words of Wisdom.* It is a process of which our mind guided by the power of spirit, exerts a better role of discipline over our body. In the mental and emotional scope of health, our health is retrieved by the reunion of the two ideologies, the mind and the spirit. When the mental conflicts between the two ideologies calm down, then we can regain a balance of the spirit and body, through the mastering of mind over body.

From this perspective, a mental disease is really nothing complicated than any other organ or epidemic disease. It mainly involves dualism (mind and spirit) instead of the trinity (mind, body and spirit) of the human homeostasis. When it comes to the physical reflections, leads to substantial physical damage, body, the physical aspect is involved in different degrees."
